Independent Agencies. United Voice.

The Association of Independent Ad Agencies (AIAA) brings founder-led, agile shops together to gain the visibility, influence, and opportunities usually reserved for holding-company networks.

Become a MemberWhy Independent Agencies?

Powerful. Nimble. Closer to the Work.

Independent agencies punch above their weight. With flatter structures and founder-led teams, they move faster, make bolder decisions, and give clients direct access to senior talent—without the bureaucracy and overhead of holding companies

Agility at Scale

Fewer layers mean decisions in days, not weeks—so clients can react to culture and market shifts in real time.

Investment Planning

Sed perspiciatis unde omnis natus totam sit voluptatem audantium.

Founders in the Room

Leaders with skin in the game stay close to strategy and creative, bringing experience and accountability big networks can’t always match.

A Collective Voice for Independents

Independents compete with network agencies every day, but their stories are often fragmented. AIAA exists to amplify independent work, represent indie agencies in industry conversations, and create a place where owners and leaders can learn from one another.

More Visibility

Curated showcases, PR opportunities, and award support that spotlight independent campaigns—so holding companies no longer own the narrative.

Shared Intelligence

Peer groups and resource libraries focused on indie-specific questions: staffing, pricing, AI tools, new-business strategies and more.

Unified Advocacy

A seat at the table when standards, measurement, privacy and media practices are set—ensuring independent agencies aren’t an afterthought.

A Vast, Under‑Recognized Force

Independent agencies make up the overwhelming majority of shops and a significant share of ad spend and employment, yet most industry narratives still center on a handful of holding-company groups.

In many markets, more than 95% of agencies operate independently of the big holding-company networks.

The six largest holding companies now control under a third of US ad spending, down from roughly 44% just a few years ago—leaving a growing share to independents and other players.

US ad agencies employ well over 200,000 people, with headcount shifting away from large networks as they restructure and toward independents, in-house teams and new entrants.

When thousands of independent agencies and tens of thousands of people coordinate their stories and influence, they have the leverage of a holding company—with the freedom and creativity of staying independent. AIAA exists to organize that power.
